The city of Los Angeles is known for many famous tourists spots throughout the globe. The Hollywood sign, Disneyland California, Beverly Hills, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, just to name a few. It’s a pretty big city that is part of Southern California, that offers a lot of tourist attractions to people. It can be pretty intimidating for newcomers on where to go, where to eat and where to shop.
Fortunately, I had the opportunity to explore the city for a couple of days with my mom and a tour guide, who was kind enough to pin point on what sites I should see, what restaurants were the best to eat at, and where to shop.
Here are the spots to visit while you’re in Los Angeles:
The iconic Hollywood sign is situated on top of Mount Lee, in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountains. The sign overlooks Hollywood, Los Angeles.
When you’re in L.A. the first thing you should visit is the Hollywood sign. Not only is it the first thing that comes to people’s minds when they here Los Angeles, but it is a real sight to behold. I suggest going there via Mulholland Drive because there is a designated place where you can park your car and just admire that sign and the view of Hollywood.
UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD
and Universal Citywalk. I combined them into one since they are right beside each other. Universal Studios Hollywood is both a film studio and a theme park all rolled into one. It’s located in the San Fernando Valley part of LA and is the Entertainment Capital of the city itself.
There are a lot of rides and attractions in the theme park itself, but I suggest going to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction first since it’s the most famous one and in just that attraction alone there are already two rides, and you can go try the butterbeer that they serve, get the wand experience as if you’re in the movie, go to Honeydukes for all the candies and sweets, you can even buy wizarding clothes and a whole lot of different items that have either the Hogwarts insignia or one of the four Houses.
Next thing you need to go is to tour the whole lot of Universal Studios by joining the Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour, they carry you via connected carts and tour you around the place. Show you the different sound stages where a lot of shows are being filmed, for example, The Voice USA was currently being filmed while we were outside of the stage, and they even have simulations of experiencing an earthquake, a shark attack and a lot of those cool stuff.
My last suggestion is to not miss riding both the Jurassic Park and Revenge of the Mummy rides as they are the most heart-stopping ones and the long lines are worth it when you get your turn riding them.
As for the Universal Citywalk, it’s a place where you can hang out and chill after visiting the studio, as there are a lot of restaurants and shops to browse around. There are sometimes even live performances at night by musicians.
I suggest going to SAMBA, it’s a Brazilian Steakhouse with an amazing salad bar and an all-you-can-eat-meat promo that gives you the chance to try out their whole meat selection. And while you’re enjoying the food, there’s live entertainment within the restaurant.
WALT DISNEY CONCERT HALL
The Walt Disney Concert Hall is the next site that you should visit in LA as the architectural design of it is just magnificent. Seeing it up-close was breathtaking and it really is just a sight to behold. You can watch the Los Angeles Philharmonic play there as when they have a scheduled performance.
The concert hall is located in Downtown Los Angeles, near the business and art district of the city.
The Union Station is the main railway in the city, as it travels all throughout Southern California
This place is one of my suggestions that you should go to because of the scenic look of the place as it feels like you’re transported to another time. And the Spanish culture that is shown with the place because of tiny store fronts that sell all these trinkets, and there are food carts that sell Spanish food.
The station itself feels very old, yet there is a timeless classic feel to it. I’m suggesting this site for the people who love to see locations that transport them to another time because the Union Station does that.
THE GROVE LA
This last suggestion is for the people who love to not only shop but to also not feel like a tourist. The Grove LA is a destination where you can shop, where you can eat, and where you can just relax and people watch all day.
It’s the place where locals love to hang out because of the shops and restaurants that are in it. There is a Cheesecake Factory and Mixology restaurant that is beside each other, for those people who love to try different types of food. And there are also clothing stores from high-end ones like Nordstrom and Barney’s to cheaper one like Ross just across the street. For the technophile, there is an apple store in the middle part of the Grove, and there are also stalls who sell gadget accessories and cameras. Last but not least, for the people who are looking for beauty supplies, there is a Sephora near the entrance, and just across is a CVS pharmacy.
There’s also a huge pond that has animated fountain displays that give a show now and then throughout the day. Sometimes there are also little trains that kids can catch a ride on.
That’s my suggestions for the spots to visit while you’re in Los Angeles to enjoy and maximize your time there.
Next time, I’ll be adding more places to visit as LA is a really big place, so there’s a ton more in store for you. Stay tuned and I hope you enjoy your trip!
